Head Impact Testing

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 201 establishes criteria for the padding of the vehicle interior to reduce injuries during vehicle impacts.  SAFE Laboratories has the ability to perform many of the tests prescribed and required by FMVSS 201, as well as other head impact tests.  One example case study involved at T-bone impact in which the driver’s head of the impacted vehicle struck the interior of the B-pillar.  The seat-mounted side airbag did not deploy and a parametric study was conducted with our head impact test device to study the effect a deployed side airbag would have on the driver’s head injury measures.
